The goal of the IPVS 2010 scientific program is to ensure that there is an ideal environment for the sharing of ideas among the world's veterinarians who specialize in improving the health of pigs.

Our local organising committee, in consultation with other IPVS colleagues, has established a new lecture to honour the memory of Dr. Tom Alexander, Cambridge University, Cambridge, UK. Dr Alexander was involved in founding the IPVS and a major contributor to this organization's success until his death in 2008. After a brief Opening Ceremony the Tom Alexander Memorial Lecture will lead off the scientific program.

The overall theme of the congress "Sharing Ideas-Advancing Pig Health" will emphasize three broad subject areas: "Pig Health", "Production & Management", and "Food Safety, Animal Welfare & Social Change". An important objective will be to ensure that the latest scientific information is applied at the field level and therefore we will be continuing to include the "Practitioner's Line".

An innovation in the 2010 program will be the institution of electronic posters (e-posters) to replace poster boards. Delegates will be able to view posters on large screens at stations throughout the venue. The e-posters will also allow us to have predetermined poster sessions where certain topics will be covered at a specific time with authors being present to briefly discuss their work.

It is our goal to create a forum for the sharing of ideas from the leading researchers and industry workers from around the world, so that this knowledge, innovation and enthusiasm will advance the health of pigs and the strength and wealth of the global pig industry.
